Basics of Plumbing System in a Building


Plumbing System refers to the system of pipes, drain fittings, valves, valve assemblies and devices which are positioned in a building for the disposal of water toward drinking, heating & washing as well as the disposal of waste generated from water, and the skilled work with pipes, tubing and plumbing fixtures in such systems.

The following types of pipes utilized in plumbing system:-

Galvanized iron pipe - It comes with small diameter. It is suitable for services and internal connections.

Cast iron pipes - It is available up to 60 mm dia. Mainly water passes through this pipe and there is no echo.

Unplasticsized PVC Pipes - It's diameter varies from 16 mm to 315 mm. It has good resistance capacity against corrosion, chemical etc.

Rigid PVC Pipes - It's diameter varies from 32 to 315 mm. It is same as Unplasticsized PVC Pipes.

The Plumbing System is based on the following constituents:-

Water Supply System - It belongs to a system in plumbing that arranges and dispenses water to various sections of the building or structure for several reasons like drinking, cleaning, washing, culinary applications etc. It comprises of the water distributing pipes, control devices, equipment and other fixtures.

Drainage System - Under this system, all the piping inside a public or private premises deliver sewage, rainwater or other liquid wastes to point of disposal. A drainage system does not comprise of the mains of public sewer systems or a private or a public sewage treatment or disposition plant.

Sanitary Drainage and Vent Piping System - These piping systems are set up to extract wastewater and water-borne wastes out of the plumbing fixtures and apparatus as well as arrange flowing of air inside the drainage piping.

Sanitary Drainage Pipe - After being set up, the pipes extract the wastewater and water-borne waste out of plumbing fixtures and transfer them to the sanitary sewer and other points of disposition.

Sanitary Drainage System (Building/House Sewer) - This section of the drainage system is stretched from the end of the building drain and the objective of the system is to transfer its discharge to the public sewer, private sewer, separate sewage disposal system or exact point of disposition.
