Detail Overview of Sunken Slab and their uses

Sunken slabs are commonly found in the toilets, bathrooms and washing place where our washing machines are situated. The objective of constructing a sunken slab is to cover up all the pipes underneath the floor. As the pipes through which the water is supplied are covered underneath the floor, there should proper precautions to get rid of leakage problems.

Usually, the people does not have clear conception about waterproofing the Sunken slab prior to complete the floor finish. In the following article, detail information is given on the construction process of Sunken slab and waterproofing system.

Construction process of a Sunken Slab

  • The concrete of the R.C.C. (floor and sunken slab) should be combined with a waterproofing material to produce a denser, watertight concrete.
  • Then cement and waterproofing material are adulterated in water and sprayed onto the RCC sunken slab. Over that a layer of plaster is formed with a mortar plasticizer with the support of a cement mortar.
  • Placing of bricks on the walls and plastering (before tiling) of the walls and floor should be completed with cement mortar mixed with a mortar plasticizer.
  • Tile fixing for the floor and walls tiles is accomplished with non-shrink, waterproof tile adhesives to keep the tiled area waterproof.

Sanitary pipe joints are covered with sealants specifically manufactured for covering Sanitary joints tightly to avoid leakage of water.
