How to prepare bar bending schedule for footing and column
In this Civil Engineering article briefly describes how to prepare bar bending schedule for footing and column (circular or round column).
As a preliminary task, cut lengths of the bars are calculated. Then, the numbers of bars are calculated. After that the format of bar bending schedule is prepared.
The length of the footing is taken as 7 feet.
The width of the footing is taken as 7 feet.
The diameter of the column is taken as 12 inches.
The main bars and distribution bars of steels in footing are equivalent i.e. 3/4@8 c/c both sides.
The concrete in footing is given as 10 inches.
The height up to overlap is 2 feet 6 inches. Then, the overlap is provided as 2 feet. If the length of the overlap is not given, then it will be calculated as 40d. The height above overlap is 13 feet.
The concrete cover is given as 3 inches. The concrete cover for column is given as 1.5 inches. Main bars are provided as 1/2" @6 bars. The size of the stirrups is given as 3/8@6 c/c. The diameter of the column is given as 12 inches.
The calculation of cut lengths of the steel bars is as follow:-
Cut length base = L - 2 covers + 18d (here L denotes length, 2 covers means concrete covers on both sides)
After putting the values, we get the following:-
C/L Base = 7 - (0.25+0.25) + 18 x 0.75 =7.625 feet
Numbers of bars will be calculated as follow:-
Length / Spacing + 1 (here, length will be taken as effective length i.e. concrete cover will be deducted from steel)
Numbers of bars = 6.5 + 0.66 +1 (8 inches = 0.66 feet) = 11 numbers of bars
Calculation of the cut length of the main bars in column will be as follow:-
Cut length of main bars = L + overlap = 13 + 2 = 15 feet
Calculation of cut lengths of tie bars (rings) will be as follow:-
C/L Ties = πd + 6d for hook = 3.142 x 0.75 + 6(0.03125) = 2.54 ft
Numbers of bars = Length / Spacing + 1 = 18/0.5 +1 = 37 numbers
