Tips to work out the quantity of concrete in a semi-sphere slab
This civil engineering article shows in detail how to find out the quantities of materials for a spherical dome slab.
A dome refers to an architectural substance and rounded vault that is used to build up the roof of a building or structure having a circular base. The spherical dome is formed with a flat cut in a sphere.
On the basis of the following data, the total calculation is done:-
- External diameter = 16 feet
- The external radius of semi-sphere = 8.5 feet
- Inside radius of semi-sphere = 8 feet
- Height is provided as 8 feet
- The thickness of the slab = 6 inches or 0.5 feet
To calculate the volume of semi-sphere, the following formula should be applied:-
= 2/3 x p x (R?r)2 x Height
Once all the values are provided, the following result is obtained:-
= 2/3 x 3.142 x [(8.5)2? (8)2] x 8 = 138.24 cft
Therefore, the concrete will be required for the dome slab = 138.24
The area of semi-sphere can be calculated with the following formula:-
3 x p x (Radius)
