How to create bar bending schedule of a staircase in excel

The renowned engineer Waseem Raja presents an informative tutorial for civil engineering students. In this civil engineering video tutorial, he briefly discusses the process for making bar bending schedule of staircase in MS excel. The video is very useful for quantity surveyor.

In the example provided in the video, there are two landings as landing 1 and landing 2. There are also two waist slabs but here one waist slab is considered for the calculation purpose.

The width of landing 1 is taken as 1000 mm

The length of landing 1 is taken as 2500 mm

The length of the waist slab is taken as 2500 mm

The width of the waist slab is taken as 1200 mm

The width of landing 2 is also taken as 1000 mm

The width of landing 2 is also taken as 2500 mm

The cross section of the staircase contains the following dimensions:-

Riser is taken as 150 mm

Tread is taken as 250 mm

Hypotenuse is calculated as 292 mm through Pythagoras theorem.

The width of both landing is given as 1000 mm and the width of beams provided on both landing is 250 mm. The depth of both landings is 200 mm.

The thickness of the waist slab is given as 125 mm.

The number of risers is given as 11

The number of treads is given as 10

The diameter of two alternate bent up bars is given as 10 mm @100 center to center. Extra bars are given as 10 mm dia @200 center to center. Distribution bars are provided as 8 mm dia @150 center to center.

Clear cover for stair (base slab & landing) is given as 25 mm and cover for beam is given as 30 mm.

Based on the above dimension, the calculation is done with the following formula:-

Number of bars = Width of flight – Clear Cover for both sides / Spacing + 1

After putting the values, we get the following result:-

No. of bars = 1200 – (2 x 25) / 100 + 1

No. of bars = 1150 /100 + 1 = 12.5 = 13 Numbers (approx)
