How to estimate the quantities of cement, sand and aggregate in 1m3 concrete cube

In this construction video tutorial, one will learn the detail process for working out the quantities of cement, sand and aggregate in a plane concrete.

In RCC there are various steel bars. In order to determine the current measurement, it is required to subtract the volume of steel bars from RCC.

In the solution part, you will learn to calculate the quantities of cement, sand and aggregate for 1m3

So, Volume = 1m3

M15 concrete mix is taken in the proportion of 1:2:4 (cement : sand : aggregate)

We know, density of cement = 1440 kg/ m3

And volume of 1 cubic meter = 35.3147 cubic foot

Volume of concrete = length x breadth x height = 1 x 1 x 1 = 1m3 (it is the wet volume)

To convert it to dry volume, multiply 1 with 1.54 i.e. 1 x 1.54 = 1.54m3

Now, you have to find out how 1.54 is derived.

Dry volume for concrete (cement + sand + aggregate) = 54% in excess of wet volume

= 100/100 + 54/100 = 1 + .54 = 1.54

= 1.54 x wet volume

It means, when water is added to the mix of cement, sand and aggregate, the volume of concrete is reduced by 54%. So, in dry volume 54% is included.

Now, you have to find out the quantities of cement in cumec, kg and bags in the following ways :-

You have to make the calculation on the basis of the following dimensions :-

Dry volume of concrete = 1.54m3

Concrete M15 = 1:2:4 = 1+2+4 = 7

Density of cement = 1440 kg/m3

1 cement bag = 50 kg

The quantity of cement in cumec (m3) will be 1/7 x 1.54 = 0.22 m3

The quantity of cement in kg will be 1/7 x 1.54 x 1440 = 316.8 Kg.

The quantity of cement in bag will be 316.8/50 = 6.336 bags
