How to determine the quantity of steel for different types of bars
In this exclusive video lecture, you will learn the calculation method required for working out the quantity of steel for different types of RCC slabs.
In this video, solution is given to the following problem:-
Suppose, the length of the steel bar is taken as 20 feet and breadth as 10 feet.
Measure the steel for a slab. Do not consider concrete cover here. Select main bars as #4 @6” c/c and distribution bars #4 @6” c/c.
Computation of main bars is done as follow:-
Numbers of main bars = Total distance / c/c + 1 (summation of one bar)
Numbers of main bars = 20/0.5 + 1 (as c/c = 6 inches or 0.5 feet) = 40 + 1 = 41
Therefore, numbers of main bars = 41
Total length of main bars will be determined with the following formula:-
Length of one bar x numbers of bars
After putting the related values, we get the following output:-
Total length of main bars = 10 x 41 = 410 feet
Now, it is required to measure the weight of steel bars:-
Weight of bar = D2 /52.9 x Length of bar = 42 / 52.9 x 410 (d means dia of bar and it is given as 4 sutar)
So, W = 0.3025 x 410 = 124 kg
Now, measurement will be done for distribution bars as follow:-
Numbers of distribution bars = Total distance / c/c + 1
= 10 / 0.5 + 1 = 20 + 1 = 21 numbers (as distribution bars are situated horizontally, the depth is taken here)
So, the numbers of distribution bars = 21
Now, total length of distribution bars = Length of one bar x numbers of bars.
After putting the related values, we get the following result:-
= 20 x 21 = 420 feet
